Court proceedings involving Christopher Okello Onyum took a significant turn today after the defense team failed to present additional witnesses, raising questions about the strength and direction of the case.
According to submissions made in court, defense counsel informed the judge that efforts to secure the attendance of key witnesses had been unsuccessful. The matter had been scheduled specifically for the defense to present its witnesses, but the absence of these individuals disrupted the planned proceedings.
The lawyer explained that a process server had been dispatched earlier to locate and notify the intended witnesses. However, the process server reportedly failed to trace them. “My Lord, I have been informed by the process server that the intended witnesses to appear today in court could not be found,” the defense counsel stated.
The court also heard that attempts to contact the remaining two witnesses through their known telephone numbers proved futile. The numbers provided were reportedly unreachable, making it impossible for the defense team to coordinate their appearance in court.
In an additional submission, the lawyer emphasized that the accused, Christopher Okello Onyum, had only supplied telephone contacts for the witnesses, without providing physical addresses or alternative means of identification. This limitation, the defense argued, significantly hindered their ability to trace the individuals.
“The accused person only provided telephone numbers and not physical addresses,” counsel clarified, underscoring the logistical challenges faced in securing witness attendance.
The defense further revealed that even efforts involving media outreach, including using a local newspaper to trace the witnesses, yielded no results. Despite these attempts, the two remaining witnesses could still not be located as of the court session today.
This development leaves the defense in a difficult position, as witness testimony is often critical in strengthening a case. The absence of these witnesses could potentially impact the outcome of the trial, depending on how the court proceeds.
Legal observers note that courts may, in such circumstances, either grant additional time to the defense to locate witnesses or require the case to proceed based on the available evidence. The judge is expected to provide further direction on the next steps.
The case continues to attract attention, with updates being closely followed on Acoli Side TV’s official YouTube channel, where more details and courtroom developments are being shared.
As proceedings continue, all eyes remain on how the defense will navigate this setback and whether the missing witnesses will eventually be traced.
