KAMPALA / AGAGO — In a milestone achievement for local governance and infrastructure development, the Agago District leadership, led by LCV District Chairperson Otto Wilson Otto, has successfully resolved a longstanding funding deficit under the Uganda Intergovernmental Fiscal Transfers (UGIFT) programme following a high-level summit with the Director of Budget at the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development.

Accompanied by key members of the district technical team, Chairperson Otto Wilson Otto convened with ministry officials to directly advocate for immediate fiscal intervention to bridge the inherited funding gap that had continuously stalled critical local service delivery and public infrastructure projects across Agago.

The financial deficit—a persistent legacy issue inherited by the current local administration—had long constrained local government efforts to complete essential capital works in sectors such as health, education, and rural access roads. However, through strategic, high-level advocacy and rigorous engagement, the district leadership secured a commitment from the Ministry’s Budget Directorate to address the shortfall.

Speaking after the delegation’s engagement with ministry executives, leadership expressed deep gratitude for the Directorate’s receptive stance and willingness to listen to the grievances of rural communities. The breakthrough is being hailed across the district as a major political and administrative triumph, demonstrating how persistent executive advocacy can overcome structural financial bottlenecks to unlock vital resources for grassroots development.

With the UGIFT funding deficit now decisively addressed, Agago District is set to resume full-scale implementation of targeted local infrastructure projects, marking a pivotal turning point for service delivery and socio-economic progress in the region.
