Agago District, Uganda – The Office of the District Chairperson, Agago, has officially released the schedule and guidelines for the upcoming distribution of food relief supplies from the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM).
In a circular dated September 7, 2026, addressed to all LCIII Chairpersons and Town Council heads, the District announced the receipt of a substantial consignment aimed at cushioning the most vulnerable communities in the district.
The Consignment
According to the letter signed by District Chairperson Otto Wilson, the district has received:
· 250,000 kilograms of maize flour
· 125,000 kilograms of beans
This is the first direct support from the office of the OPM ever since the drought crisis set in.
Beneficiary Selection Criteria
With a total district population of 69,400 households, the local government has determined that only 12,500 households will benefit from this specific consignment due to the quantity of food available.
To ensure fairness and reach the most needy, the district has directed all Parish Chiefs to identify exactly 106 beneficiary households per parish. The selection process is strictly guided by the following priority categories:
1. Households with persons with disabilities.
2. Households with elderly persons aged 60 years and above.
3. Households with pregnant mothers.
Exclusions and Transparency
In a bid to avoid duplication of aid, the circular explicitly states that households which previously benefited from food relief provided by the Salvation Army and the Kakande Ministries must be excluded from this current distribution list.
The District Chairperson has further instructed that identification and verification must be conducted in a “transparent and participatory manner,” involving local leaders and community structures to ensure the list reflects the true reality on the ground.
Submission Deadline
All generated beneficiary lists must be submitted to the office of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) before Wednesday, September 9th, 2026.
The district leadership has urged all sub-county chiefs and town clerks to prioritize this exercise to ensure that the vulnerable persons in Agago receive the much-needed assistance without delay.
The letter is copied to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Resident District Commissioner, the District Internal Security Officer, the District Community Development Officer, and all Sub-County Chiefs.
